WORLD BOOK DAY!

Primary 1 had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day! We came to school dressed in our pyjamas and brought in our favourite bedtime stories. We did lots of fun activities throughout the day.

We enjoyed reading our stories from home with a friend and there was a lovely buzz in the air – our classroom was the perfect reading environment! We know that the author is the person who wrote the book and the illustrator is the person who draws the pictures in the book.

We loved listening to a story called “There’s a Monster in my Book”. Cai brought this book in from home – thanks Cai! The author is Tom Fletcher and we listened to two other books written by him called “There’s an Alien in my Book” and “There’s a Dragon in my Book”. We chose which one we wanted to hear and Mrs Swanston and Miss Lawton each read one of these books. They are fantastic stories!

Miss Lawton asked us questions about reading. Here are some of our responses:

What is your favourite book?

Maisie – My favourite is “You Choose”.

Rosie – I like  “My Tooth Fairy” book.

If you could be a book character what would you be?

Katie – I would be a duck.

Cai – I would be a lion because they go roar!

What is the last book you read?

Charlie – “Monsters go to school” and it’s so funny.

David – I read “Snail Race”.

What book has made you laugh?

Zoe – “Ready for Bed” makes me laugh.

Ljay – “The Three Little Pigs” is funny.

Where is your favourite place to read?

Gracie, Macey and Rosie – “under my bed”.

Evie – “At my granny’s library”.

We played a game called “Name that Story”. We listened to the clues and guessed which book was being described and we got most of them correct!

Mrs Gaffney created a Virtual Library which is now on Seesaw for us to explore further. On the Smartboard, we listened to Michelle Obama read a story by Tom Fletcher and it was so funny! We listened to another story from the Virtual Library called “I Need my Monster”.

Some of us made a book mark and some of us made a character mask.  In the afternoon we loved doing a book hunt in the playground. We had to hunt around the playground and tick off the animal books when we found them.

A fun day was had by all!
