Primary 4 are learning to read maps!

Map reading is a very handy skill to have, especially when you are enjoying the outdoors!

We started off by learning what a map is. We looked at maps of Polbeth and West Calder on the Ordnance Survey site. You can print these maps out if you like or you can download them to your device.

After that, we worked on plans. Plans are simple maps.  They always have a Key so that you know what the different colours and symbols mean.

We drew plans of objects on desks and then we challenged each other to follow the plans that we invented.

Next time, we are going to learn about the symbols that are used on maps!
