Outdoor Fun in Woodland in a ‘safe way’

Rannoch Class have had a busy week! They had a lot of fun in the Wooded area near our school, where Alice our Outdoor Education Specialist took the class to experience some different outdoor activities. The boys absolutely loved ‘walking the kids at work slackline’.  It was not at all easy for them, but they loved it. The line was at safe height off the ground, the trees were kept safe with special guards around them to allow the ratchet to tighten the ‘kids safe slackline’. Adults kept themselves safe, and also the pupils, wearing facemasks, and Alice sanitised hands in between each child as  the pupils were supported on the slackline. The boys also ‘had a go on the hammock’ – it was great fun. They all loved the sensory fun throughout and can’t wait to go again. Thank you very much to Alice for making this happen!

The boys are also enjoying the new playground games… one pupil ‘having a look’ inside the big bag! Mrs MacDonald almost zipped him up!!

Emotion Works – Body Sensations

The boys were learning more about Emotion Works, in particular ‘Body Sensations’. They listened to a story about ‘feelings’ and what happens to their bodies when in different ‘zones’, then a discussion about ‘body sensations’ using Emotion Works as a resource. They managed  to complete a group poster they can access when they want over the next few weeks. They are proud of their work!

Project Work on Space

The boys made a good start to their latest project on ‘Space’ in a variety of curricular areas. They started some Arts & Crafts work on a frieze that will support their learning of facts about Space. They also made Split Pin Astronauts.  Watch this space to see the finished frieze in the next week or two. They were also learning about ‘story boards’ with a Space theme. After listening & talking they placed their ideas about an adventure into space into pictures. They were very excited retelling their stories in front of each other whilst following their storyboard  pictures. Almost all the boys managed this, which was great! Some of the boys started writing, but there is a bit more work to do on this over the next couple of weeks. Some of the boys love ‘word searches’ – they completed a word search on ‘Aliens in Space!’

Prepositions & the sound ‘J’

Some of the boys were learning about prepositions, while others learned about the sound ‘j’. Their learning was also reinforced with some phonic matching games, while the others played ‘Junior Scrabble.’

Numeracy & Maths

The different groups were learning about subtraction, some working on number within 10, while the others were learning about Subtraction of HTU / regrouping/exchanging. Some super hard work was done! Well done boys!

Thank you to our classroom APSW Mrs Hilson & Miss De – working very hard to ‘make it happen’ and support our boys in Rannoch Class. Have a great holiday weekend when it comes!
