Today is National Numeracy Day.
This is a day when we celebrate the importance of numbers. We want to help children and adults feel confident about numbers at home, work and school. In class we discussed that we use maths in every aspect of our lives at work and in practical everyday activities at home and beyond. We decided to go on a number hunt around the school and the playground to see why we need numbers and why they are important. We took our ipads and photographed any numbers that we could find.
We noticed that numbers can help us to be organised, numbers for our classes, numbers to tell us what entrance we can use, numbers tell our parents where they can stand in the playground and numbers tell us the time. Numbers also help to keep us safe, numbers tell us how many people can be in a room, numbers tell us how long we should wash our hands and we know that numbers tell drivers how fast they are allowed to drive. Numbers are fun, there’s numbers on the snake in the playground and numbers help us to play hop scotch. We saw lots of numbers on the displays which give us information.
