St Mary's achieves another Green Flag Award - June 2021

We are really pleased to announce the renewal of our Green Flag Award Status! What a fantastic effort by a fantastic team at St Mary’s, including the pupils, parents and members of the community involved in our Sustainable Education drive forward. Eco –Schools Scotland informed us only yesterday that we have achieved this great achievement despite the challenges of navigating Covid-19 and all the restrictions laid upon us all! St Mary’s Primary have been commended for ‘thinking outside the box’!! Please read just a little extract from the feedback from the main assessor at Eco-Schools Scotland…here it is…

‘I really enjoyed learning about all the work you did around the topics of Food and the Environment and Global Citizenship, and the fantastic improvements and plans for your garden. I really liked the idea of a cooking agenda with cooking goals for each class set by pupils as I have never seen something like that before, and I was glad that you managed to think outside the box when you realized that it wasn’t going to be able to happen due to Covid. A lockdown recipe book sounds really interesting and I will be hoping that you share it with us once you finish it, and that you will soon be able to start preparing some of those recipes in class as well. Seeing how Learning for Sustainability has taken such an important place in your learning agenda, and how ‘eco’ is present in nearly everything you do, has been extremely inspiring. Together with the “Leader in Me” programme, they will have a fantastic impact in your preparation to becoming positive and committed citizens of our world in the future.’

The ‘Lockdown’ Recipe book will carry on over to next session for sure, and a great way to start the new priorities – maybe it will be ready for parental Christmas Stockings!! Think someone in the Outer Hebrides will be looking for one of these too! Please keep submitting your ‘Lockdown’ recipes, save them over the Summer, send them to school in August onwards– a healthy wee pile of recipes have started to appear in already, thank you to everyone that has contributed so far! Let’s keep this going and much more!
