This week in Primary 7 we have been learning about Remembrance Day and the story of the poppy. We made a poppy to wear as we marked the 2 minute silence on Thursday, and we read our Remembrance Day acrostic poems, and the famous poem In Flanders Fields.
This week we’ve also carried on with our learning about the Jacobites. We split into small groups to do some research on the 1715 and 1745 rebellions and have now started to research some of the main historic figures including Bonnie Prince Charlie, The Duke of Cumberland and Flora MacDonald. We’re also starting to look at why Charlie was not successful at the Battle of Culloden, even though he had known success before.
We’ve also been looking at the dress and weaponry differences between the Redcoats and the Jacobites and got to hold a replica Claymore sword! It was very heavy and we discussed how it would be possible to carry or wield along with all the other heavy kit the Jacobites had!
Finally we completed our STEM challenge that we created for Primary 1 – which was to design and create an obstacle course with elements of maths and science. We then met with Primary 1 to receive some excellent feedback on what they thought was good, what we could improve on and what they enjoyed the most. Well done Primary 7 for being such superstar STEM Ambassadors!
