As some parents may remember, this activity was introduced using the Jaffa cakes advert:
But times change (very few of us liked Jaffa cakes in any case) and so we moved on to learning that the Moon has ‘phases’ and it looks a little different to us each night during its one-month orbit of our Planet, Earth… using Oreos!
We opened up some Oreo cookies and scaped off the creme filling to show the major phases of the Moon and we described these as ‘New Moon’ then ‘Half Moon’ and finally ‘Full Moon’. Some of us could use the terms ‘First Quarter’ and ‘Third Quarter’ and we are beginning to understand that we can’t really see the side that is lit as it faces away from us.
If you look very closely, you will see what happened to the broken biscuits that didn’t get used!

Did you realise we were wearing our Christmas Jumpers? It was also Christmas Dinner in school today and although we didn’t try too many new tastes, we certainly got into the holiday spirit!
