Scientists visit P5
Scientists from the University of Edinburgh visited P5 for the third time to complete our investigation into the DNA extraction of fruit.
We completed the experiment a few weeks ago when the scientists first visited, and today found out our results. All four groups successfully extracted DNA from grapes, but we discovered it is easier to extract it from kiwis or strawberries. Nonetheless our hypothesis and method will be published as part of the Scientists research paper in a forthcoming scientific journal.
The winning group, who extracted the most DNA was David, Emma-Leigh and Charlie, who won a spy pen. Everyone else won a sticker and the whole class was given a microscope, experiment book and lots of scientific equipment for the school.
We met 5 scientists in total and the class enjoyed asking the lots of questions about their work and research. We also designed a poster and illustrated what we thought scientists at work looked like, then what we saw they looked like after meeting them.
Well done P5, you did a great job!
